The hardest part isn't the work, it's the business
steampoweredmedia:
There is nothing like writing a query letter to convince you that what you’ve written is crazy and rambling and terrible. I worked literally two days and came up with the following:
Boone Jacobsen is a failed astronomer who has let his life languish to ruin. A strained marriage, a distant son, a department chair quietly hinting for his resignation. When he inherits a...

“Much of the pain suffered in our society today is due to this breakdown of the human community. […] For many people, the only culture and community they know is the one that has been fed to them by corporations, one of mass consumerism. Burning Man is the antithesis of this. It is an antidote.”

Waking up is hard to do
My boy slept an extra hour, so I got to sleep for an extra hour. Everything else is okay, but my eyes still feel tired. I think my eyes would like another 4-5 hours or so. Yeah. Do they make coffee for eyes? Because I think the regular stuff would really sting.

SWEET JESUS, I CAN'T FRIGGIN WAIT FOR MY BIRTHDAY!
yowhatsthehaps:
It’s in July. You’ve got plenty of time to figure this out, guys. DON’T LET ME DOWN.
I know it’s not very original, but I’ll probably do the cupcakes thing again. This time I won’t miss that ‘s’ in the middle.

My favorite thing is still this:
My boy falls asleep next to me on the couch, watching old episodes of Bill Nye the Science Guy. When I’m sure he’s out cold, I let the show play to the end. I turn out the lights. I scoop him up and carry him off to bed. Sometimes he sighs when I pick him up; sometimes, when I lay him down. His eyes will flutter open for a minute, till I pull his blanket over him. He curls up, they...
The worst is that there are so many worsts
I know it gets better. I’m just trying to figure out what all I’m feeling right now. I find myself wishing I had a family to run home to. A haven to hide out in. A place to heal.
The worst
The worst part of divorce is that the comfort you used to find in having a crush on someone, or daydreaming about finding someone wonderful, is gone. It’s gone because you don’t trust your own heart anymore to pick someone who won’t hurt you.
The worst
The worst part of divorce is being alone, when you’re not supposed to be alone. When there was supposed to be someone by your side. A partner. So you could let your guard down and not be overcome by the haunting weight of your own thoughts.
The worst
The worst part pf the divorce is the way my son says, “I’m gonna miss you,” when I tell him he’s spending the night at his moms.

psychotherapy:
Using Eysenck’s classic personality test, Tosun and Lajunen found that students who scored high on extraversion (agreeing with statements like ‘I am very talkative’) tended to use the Internet to extend their real-life relationships, whereas students who scored high on psychoticism (answering ‘yes’ to statements like ‘does your mood often go up and down?’ and ‘do you like movie...

Today I slept in, went to the gym (where I did 2.85 miles!!!), came home and ate lunch.
So far so good.
Then I decided to rest for just a minute.
3 hours later, I wake up and get a shower. So now, at 5pm on a Friday, I am finally ready to get some work done.
sigh.
Other than the “gym” part, I can totally relate to your day.
I hung out in Robert E. Lee's basement today.

We visited Arlington House. There’s currently no furniture in it as they installed a fire suppression system and need to refurbish and replaster/paint some of the rooms, so we walked around in them and such. It was fun, and I highly recommend visiting if you make your way to Arlington Cemetery.

Celebrating one month of sober, clean and crazy.
pufflepie:
I’m really beside myself this morning after waking from a really sad dream I can’t shake. I’m obsessive and feel like crying but fighting it because my fears are not based in reality and I don’t want to give into this horrible feeling. It will be a month of sobriety tomorrow for which I am grateful and I’ve worked really hard at my program so I don’t lose the momentum of recovery....
In the spring of 2007, I burned-out. I worked long and hard on a project at work, and still did gave most of my after-work time to my son. Then an anticipated training trip for work, which would have been a significant rest for me on both the home and work fronts, got cut from the budget.
I should have taken vacation time of my own. I should have done a lot of things differntly, I guess. Instead,...

Just in case you knew someone who might be able to write apps for one….
I’m starting to have ideas, myself.
I’d want to sit in my big-ass chair while a miniskirt-clad Yeoman brought it up to me for my digital signature.
That was pretty close to my first idea, but I had forgotten about Yeoman Rand. *heavy sigh*
