A Dream Like Mine

  1. My eight-year-old has writer’s block

    His homework tonight is to write a story about a couple of characters from a story they read in school. There are prompting questions, and we talked through those, and I triedto give him some ideas without just making up the whole story for him. 

    He hasn’t written a word yet. He’s visibly upset. 

    And me, I’m at a loss for how to help him without making it worse.  I thought things were going okay as we talked through the prompts. Now… ugh.

    I’m going to try again. I’m not sure what I’m going to try, but I’m going to try.

      He can write a crap one as insurance and go back and do a good one later. Not everything has to be the best he can do.

    5. do-over said: Joy tends to be able to express herself in drawings. Maybe try having him draw the characters doing things, then explaining what’s going on in the picture?
    6. felistella said: Maybe this could help: take two action figures and have him play it out in the characters he’s supposed to use.
