Random Halo 4 thoughts
- Are the Spartan Ops missions getting harder? It seems like once you achieve the main objective in a chapter, they throw tons of enemies at you now.
- Anyone who said the Mantis is over-powered had not played Spartan Ops, episode 3, chapter 4. Because that shit was *fun*. And you needed that much power, given what they threw at you.
- I’m enjoying Spartan Ops, and I’m glad it’s there, but it doesn’t make up for the Campaign being so short. Hopefully, they’ll put more thought into the main campaign for Halo 5.
- Hopefully, they’ll put out Halo 2: Anniversary Edition before they do Halo 5.
- Hopefully, Halo 5 won’t require an XBox 720 or whatever Microsoft decides to call it.
- I have many hopes. I expect to be disappointed on at least one.
- I was dubious about the “return of the Forerunners” and “an ancient evil awakens.” But they pulled it off, IMO. Humanity’s part in the ancient story feels a lot like a retcon, but I know they’ve been developing that story in the novels, so…. *shrug*.
- There are things that worked fine in Halo:Reach, that aren’t available yet for Halo 4. Specifically, file shares. How hard would it have been to just re-use the Reach file sharing code and servers? Lame.
- I don’t disagree that custom load-outs break multiplayer. I guess I just don’t care. I expect to get my butt kicked regularly by better players. If they have better guns, too… Again, *shrug*. However, I mostly play SWAT and Flood, which don’t allow custom load-outs, anyway.
- Overall, it’s still Halo, but… there’s something subtle missing. I think the main ship being named “Infinity”, where Bungie’s games gave us “Pillar of Autumn”, “In Amber Clad” and “Forward Unto Dawn”, is a perfect example. Bungie’s games had depth and poetry to them. People could discover subtle references buried in them years later. It remains to be seen if 343 Industries can follow in *those* footsteps.
- In the meantime, I’m having fun. And I can always go back and play Reach and ODST and all the others if Halo 4 looses its lustre after time.

Since 343 doesn’t have file sharing working fully in Halo 4 yet, you get a snapshot of a screenshot on my TV. I’ve been dinking around in Forge mode. :)
